Hi there, my name is Dean, and I am very thrilled to be guest posting for Speech Room Style for the next few weeks. I have some very non traditional, as in non educational, door decor to share with you. I will also be showcasing some new banners for your speech room as well as few desk accessories.

Today, I’m going to start with this rustic Pineapple Door Hanger handcrafted in the ever popular burlap!

The pineapple is the symbol of hospitality. It was believed to have originated back in the early colonial days. As the story goes, when New England sea captains sailed to the Caribbean and other islands, they would bring back spices and pineapples. Upon their return home, they would spear a pineapple on a fence posts to show all that they had a successful voyage. It was their way of welcoming their friends and neighbors. Inviting them into their homes to share food and drink with them as they told the tales of their journey.

The pineapple is still very popular today as a way to say WELCOME.

SPEECHIE GEEKIE FACTOID: Only in the English language is it refer to as a pineapple. Other languages call it “ananas” and in Spanish it’s called “pina”….thus “pina colada.”

Although it is summer, I wanted to share with you the first of several new door hangings that I will be adding to my Etsy shop. Who says your door has to always be in an educational theme? This can be monogrammed with an initial as pictured or wording can be embroidered on it. It could say “Welcome”, “SLP”, or even the words “Speech Language” in a circle, in the center of the banner.

If you just don’t even want to think about school right now, you might prefer having this on your own front door!

As you can see it is a nice large size for welcoming your guests. It measures approximately 10″ wide and 20″ tall. It is constructed from burlap and cotton. All details are embroidered on as is the monogram. It is totally made from scratch by me. It is available now here.

So if you happen by my place this summer, please know that you are WELCOME to come in and share my food and drink!
